Marketing Methods

Now that you have an idea of your customers' profile from your market research, you can now promote the benefits of your product or service. You can choose from a number of marketing methods. What will work best depends on how you are most likely to reach your customer and what you can afford.

Some of the methods to choose from are:

  • Local press and free papers - ideal if you wish to reach the local market.
  • Leaflet drops - you can be more selective about your target group if you drop leaflets by hand.
  • Business directories - placing an advertisement in a directory such as 'Yellow Pages' can be very effective, especially for skilled labour.
  • Local Radio - this may be fairly expensive, however it can reach your target audience at a particular time of the day.
  • Direct mail - the response rate can be quite low, but if done correctly, it can be a cost effective of reaching your specified target group.
  • Cold calling - this can be by telephone or in person.
  • Press Release - send an interesting account of your business to the press could be quite effective.
  • The Internet - consider having your own web page or web site particularly if your business will attract a large audience base.

Which ever method you select, consider the general image it convey and don't forget to ask any new customers or enquirers how they heard about you.
