Renting or buying premises

If you are planning to rent or buy premises, you need to take into account how much space you will need, that is square feet, as most business space is charged by the square foot. Don't forget to allow space for office people who might be working for you - under the Office, Shops & Railway Premises Act, you must provide 40 square feet per person which is about 8ft x 5ft.

You can usually find premises to rent or buy from the local estate agents, local papers or local council. If you are renting you will be required to sign a lease or contract commiting you to renting the premises for the period of the lease. It is advisable that you contact a solicitor before signing any contract.
